Yes! Juice Plus products contain nutrients that support several health aspects in your body. They have undergone clinical trials in various universities and research facilities globally. Based on these studies, it has shown that regular consumption has many positive effects, like immune support.
However, that does not mean it’s a magic pill that will replace whole fruits and vegetables. There is also no research comparing it with other supplements of the same or close to its kind.
So, what are some of the main benefits that Juice Plus claims to provide? In this article, we’ll briefly review a few of these and discuss the evidence supporting them.
Improved Nutritional Status
Juice Plus can help bridge the nutritional gap between your daily intake and the recommended amounts. Since you can’t eat big bowls of fruits and vegetables daily, the capsules come with various vitamins and minerals.
Its three blends (veggies, fruits, berries) have 36 different ingredients. Several studies support that Juice Plus may increase several essential nutrients in your blood.
One such study by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) proved that it raises the following in your blood.
- lycopene: 80%
- beta-carotene: 528%
- folate: 174%
- vitamin E: 30%
Better Heart Health
Juice Plus can help improve your heart health by reducing risk factors. Two studies conducted by NCBI demonstrated a significant decrease in homocysteine levels. They also found an increase in plasma antioxidant vitamins and folate.
Both of these changes can lead to better heart health since homocysteine is an amino acid linked to heart disease. The reduction of it in your blood indicates a better cardiovascular system.
Two more studies testing other heart disease risk factors have proven that Juice Plus can reduce cholesterol and high blood pressure. While the results were mixed, it is still a good indicator that it can help your heart health.
Reduced Chronic Inflammation
Juice Plus can help your body fight chronic inflammation. While acute inflammation is a healthy response to an injury or illness, chronic inflammation can damage your body in the long run. It’s linked to many diseases, like heart disease, some cancers, and type 2 diabetes.
Vegetables and fruits are rich in antioxidants. They can help you protect your cells from damage and reduce chronic inflammation. Since Juice Plus capsules contain various fruits and vegetables, taking a daily dose may benefit you against this type of inflammation.
One study by Cambridge University found that women who used Juice Plus for eight weeks experienced a reduction in markers of inflammation. They had lower tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα) levels. (1)
Another study by the Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute of Switzerland found similar findings. Taking encapsulated vegetables and fruit juice concentrate decreases chronic inflammation. (2)
Immune Function
Fruits and vegetables contain vital vitamins that optimize the immune functions of your blood cells. With Juice Plus, you can get the essential vitamins and minerals required to fight infection in a single capsule.
Two studies published by NCBI showed that taking Juice Plus supplements increased the activity of some immune cells. One of them indicated fruits and vegetable powdered capsules could improve indicators of oxidative stress, illness, and immunity. However, it’s not proven whether it can reduce the frequency of diseases. (3)
Improves Dental Health
The brand also claims that Juice Plus products can improve your gum health. According to a study published by NCBI, 60 people with periodontitis or gum disease saw a significant change after consuming these capsules for two months.
Generally, getting enough vitamins C, E, B, and zinc can improve your gum health, according to NCBI. And a fruit and vegetable juice concentrate provides these four vitamins.
Conclusion
Juice Plus is an excellent fruit and vegetable supplement that can significantly improve your nutritional intake. However, it does not replace healthy whole foods. You should add it as part of your daily diet, not replace it.
